How to use your thoughts to get what you want!
With his famous equation E= mc2, Albert Einstein proved that when you come right down to it everything in the universe is energy. Both in the physical plane of our reality of matter and the abstract reality of our mind are made up of energy patterns. The concept of a universal energy flow is not a new one.
Even your thoughts create energy! Thoughts create a vibration that relates to what your thinking. For example, when you are thinking happy healthy thoughts, you emit a higher vibration than when you think self loathing thoughts or thoughts of despair. The energy emitted from your thoughts goes out into the Universe, which acts like a giant mirror and returns the same type of energy frequency to you. So if you are trapped in negative thought patterns you are actually creating more of what you don't want in your life. Every new invention was first created by someone having a thought. That energy got to work and the next thing you know, someone invented the wheel! It really is that simple. Simple in theory I know...changing thought patterns can be difficult because we have trained ourselves to think a certain way. The good news is, if we have trained ourselves to think this way, we can also change our thinking to align with higher vibration frequencies in order to have this energy work for us instead of against what we truly desire.
Start by listening to your own thoughts. Do you often think negatively? Do you live with thoughts of never having enough? Enough time, money, love, adventure, peace? If your focusing on these thoughts then you are creating more circumstances in your life to never have enough time or money or love or adventure or peace. When we pray for patience the Universe receives that energy and says, "Okay, she wants to have more patience" and what you get are more circumstances to practice having patience. When in fact what you really wanted was not to need patience at all. So if you are thinking that you don't have enough money or you can't pay your bills the Universe sees that as something you want and mirrors back to you circumstances that ensure that you will not have enough money and you in fact can not pay your bills. But...if you think about how much you have, all of the abundance either financially or otherwise, that energy has a higher vibration and what is mirrored back to you is circumstances that create more abundance and more financial security.
Now comes the tricky part. In order to master this way of thinking you have to be very mindful of your thoughts. This can take practice. Try meditating. This can help us get in touch with our inner self and what our true desires are. Practice Mindfullness. Mindfullness is a way of being in the moment, fully aware of everything going on around us as well as within. Noticing the feel of the keyboard as I am typing. The sound the keys make as they are compressed. The sound of the washing machine in the background. The feel of the chair I am sitting in. The coldness of the floor my feet are resting on. Be present in the now. This will lead to not thinking about the past or future. It can be a daily practice. I have our children practice Mindful Meditation sometimes as we eat a meal. No talking, just being present. Noting the taste and smells of the food, the sounds from an open window, the sensation as they chew or swallow, the coldness of the drink, etc. It is great to practice this as often as you can.
So once you are aware of the thoughts you have you can start to make changes. Instead of thinking you are lacking something, try using your imagination to think about how it would feel to have what you want. The energy you create is the same, our minds don't know if it is because you actually have it or if you wish you did. By thinking about how it would feel to already have peace, you create circumstances that bring you peace. By thinking about the abundance you have, you create more abundance. By being grateful for the things you have, no matter how little that may be, the Universe gives you more things to be grateful for. By changing the energy behind the thoughts, we can create what we want.
Another way to retrain our brains to put out the vibrations we want is using affirmations. Positive affirmations allow us to hold the thoughts we are wanting to focus on. I know this sounds silly and I may be showing my age here but when I think of affirmations I instantly think of the Saturday Night Live skit where Stuart Smalley is sitting in front of the mirror telling himself he is smart enough.
But guess what? This really works! Affirmations have the ability to program your mind into believing the stated concept. Our minds do not know the difference between what is real and what is fantasy, it only recognizes the frequency it is emitting. This is why we often get into patterns of negativity. The mind does not distinguish between a good thought or a negative thought. It can not reason with itself and say, "No, I know this is not true." It only accepts the energy for what it is. So when we have negative self talk we are programming our brains to believe what we are saying.
This is why practicing mindfulness is so important. Many people go through life on auto pilot not even aware that they are focusing so much attention on negative self talk or negative thought patterns. Once you notice how you think, when you think it, and why you think it you can change it. If you notice that you are in a constant state of anxiety about financial burdens switch your thoughts to feelings of gratitude. Just small subtle changes are enough to start to see changes. Take stock of your thoughts and feelings about situations in your life. Ask yourself if you are focusing too much on what you do not want and if the answer is yes, try adding some affirmations into your daily self care to reprogram your mind and stop the cycle of negativity.
Affirmations can be done anytime, there is no right or wrong way to get started. You could start by having a set of affirmations wrote on your mirror so as you are getting ready for the day you see them and say them to yourself either quietly in your head or out loud. (I personally believe that if you say the affirmations out loud you create an even higher frequency because you are not only thinking the thoughts which creates a frequency but you are also putting energy into verbally saying the words which creates an even higher frequency) You could say them as you are driving to work, waiting in line, preparing dinner! I would encourage you to try them as often as you can. I think the best time to work on affirmations is as you are going to sleep at night. Instead of laying in bed thinking about your hectic day and wondering if you completed your to-do list, start an affirmation practice. Your conscious mind is still in control but as you drift off to sleep your subconscious mind takes over and can get to work on creating what it is you are trying to manifest. I highly recommend Dr. Wayne Dyer's book "Wishes Fulfilled: Mastering the Art of Manifesting". This book changed the way I thought about everything.
